One month and no blog?
I truly have been a slacker. Over a month without a blog. There was once a time when missing a day of blogging was a lot. These days I'm lucky if I blog once every two weeks. Seriously, what's my problem? Have I become less interesting? Is it even possible for me to be less interesting? Hmmm... I must get to the bottom of this.
Here are a few things that have happened over the past month+:
I was informed that the location of my student teaching had switched from Farmingdale to Longwood. Despite requesting western Suffolk county, the department directors decided to move me to eastern Suffolk. For the days when I am driving out from East Meadow, I'll need to be up by 4:30/5am and on the road not too much later, since I have to be there by 6:45am (earlier if I expect to find decent parking, from what I was told). When I mentioned to my seminar professor, who is in charge of setting up student teaching, how difficult this would be she said she would try to change things. In the end, she wasn't able to, so I'll be doing quite a bit of driving this year. It's ok. My meeting with one of the administrators from the district went well, so I'm looking forward to the experience.
Magdalene and I just came back from San Francisco. It was my first California trip and it was fantastic. I could never live there, but visiting was fun. I love New York too much to live anywhere else. While we were there we visited Alcatraz and took the audio tour, we wandered around Fisherman's Wharf, visited the aquarium and the Ripley's Believe It or Not museum. We walked, drove, and took the cable cars up and down the treacherously hilly streets. Walking up was rough, but stopping at stop signs and lights at the tops of the hills while driving was frightening. It felt like we would roll backwards if I hadn't power braked. We also drove to Napa Valley, then Saulsalito. And we rented bikes and took a 16-mile ride from Fisherman's Wharf, across the bridge, through Saulsalito, and over to Tiburon, where we caught the ferry back. On out last day we went to the botanical gardens and Asian Tea gardens in Golden Gate State Park. All-in-all it was a fun week. Now we're back, and I'm broke. Yikes! Time to start scrimping and saving. I won't be working much next semester, so I need to figure out how I will be paying my bills when student teaching begins.
Since the flights were long (5 1/2 to 6 hours), we had a movie marathon on each flight. During the flight to CA, we watched The Number 23, followed by Wild Hogs, which was surprisingly funny. The Number 23 was so much better than I thought it would be. On the flight back, we attempted to watch Zodiac, but it wasn't working, so we watched Shooter, then Breach. Both fantastic.
Speaking of movies, I have been a bit of a movie junkie lately. On Saturday night, I watched Rocky Balboa (it completely made up for the train wreck that is Rocky V). Last night, I watched The Good German. It was good, but I was tired, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. Tonight's pick is X-Men 3. I finally get to see this film.
Ok, I have rambled enough. It's movie time.
Later.
